Welcome to my blog!

I work in an industry that’s all about online branding, bringing your brand into the living rooms of the world, and looking good while doing it. Looking good of course can mean a lot of different things, and in my line of work it means promoting yourself as a positive company that can be trusted, but there are a lot of ways to make yourself look good. One of my loves is fashion, and I was recently encouraged to find somewhat of a marriage between this thing that I’m good at, and my industry’s business of being visible online. Of course I’m only one person, and I don’t expect anyone to take my opinions as gospel, but I do hope to start a discussion and share some ideas that could help all of us.
So why is fashion important? It’s certainly not THE most important thing, God knows, but there’s a lot more to it than being some vapid valley girl who spits on anyone wearing last week’s jeans. To me it’s about two things: showing the world who you are, and feeling good about yourself. Sometimes these become one and the same; would you feel good showing the world that you’re someone you’re not? We all know that first impressions are important, but what so many fail to remember is that we’re making first impressions every time we leave the house. You may not be going out for a job interview or going on a first date, but it’s a big and interesting world out there and you never know who you may unexpectedly run into.
Another thing to keep in mind is that we’re all role models, whether we realize it or not. We have an influence on absolutely everyone we meet, and many we don’t, and you want that influence to be a positive one. Think of the women in the magazines who have so much influence on the girls who read them. You are in fact a walking example in everyday life of how to be fabulous, whether or not you actually are. Every time you go out you are teaching someone something without even knowing it, for example, business women can be hot, or punks can be friendly. Think about it.
Fashion is also about showing respect towards other people and towards yourself. I forget exactly where I read this, and I believe it was said by Chanel, but I agree with it completely. You want to show people the best side of yourself as a sign of respect towards them, so people will enjoy being around you just a little bit more, because you feel they deserve your best at all times. It’s a lot like being on your best behavior. We place a lot of importance on being polite to people, but how polite is it really to go out with friends, or enter someone’s hard earned business establishment looking like a slob? It just doesn’t seem right. I know there are going to be a lot of people who disagree with me on this, and that’s fine, but at least consider it for a moment.
Getting back to that respecting yourself part, that should be more than obvious, no? You deserve to put a little effort into yourself, and feel confident. Really, I’m serious. To not put an effort into looking and feeling good is saying that you just don’t care about yourself, which is endlessly depressing. Everything is worth putting a little effort into, even if you think it’s something frivolous. If absolutely nothing else, it will be fun and make you feel good. What’s so wrong with that?
So let’s start the discussions! I have a lot of thoughts and great tips to share! Of course I welcome any suggestions for articles or tips of your own you may have, so always feel free to let me know!
